Why it suits you: Yang-deficient people have cold hands at Major Snow. Peanuts nourish blood, and five-spice and star anise are warming.

Method

Prep 5 min · Cook 25 min
  1. 1Soak the peanuts in the water with the salt, star anise and five-spice for 2 hours.
  2. 2Drain and pat dry.
  3. 3Roast at 150°C for 20–25 minutes, stirring halfway.
  4. 4Leave in the switched-off oven to cool so they crisp.

Cautions

  • Avoid with a peanut allergy; a small handful is enough.

Chef's tips

  • They crisp as they cool, so be patient.

The TCM view

Peanuts are sweet and neutral, supporting the spleen and blood; five-spice and star anise warm the middle.
