Why it suits you: A Balanced constitution just needs to eat lightly and in step with the season. As Awakening of Insects warms up and liver qi rises, asparagus clears heat, salmon builds qi and blood, and brown rice keeps you full without an afternoon slump.
Method
Prep 10 min · Cook 15 min- 1Pat the salmon dry and season both sides with a little salt and pepper. Snap off the woody ends of the asparagus and cut the spears in half.
- 2Toss the asparagus and garlic with the olive oil and a pinch of salt, then put them in the air fryer with the salmon, skin side down.
- 3Air-fry at 180°C for 10–12 minutes, turning the asparagus halfway, until the salmon turns pale pink and flakes easily with chopsticks.
- 4Warm the rice, top with the salmon and asparagus, and squeeze over a little lemon.
Cautions
- Allergic to fish? Use a skinless chicken thigh instead and air-fry for 15 minutes until cooked through.
Chef's tips
- For a lunchbox, cook the night before and chill; reheat in the office microwave on medium for 2–3 minutes.
- Cook a big batch of brown rice and freeze it in portions; sprinkle with a little water before reheating so it stays fluffy.
The TCM view
Asparagus is sweet and cool, clearing heat and promoting fluids; salmon is sweet and warm and nourishes qi and blood; brown rice is sweet and neutral and supports digestion. Cool and warm balance each other, air-frying keeps it light rather than heating, and a squeeze of lemon means less salt — in line with the season's call for plain, light food.
