Why it suits you: Blood-stasis types often have cold hands and feet and a dull complexion as the weather swings. Beetroot strengthens the spleen and nourishes and moves blood, red dates nourish blood and a little ginger warms the channels, so it moves blood without being cold.

- 2Bring to the boil, then simmer gently for 30 minutes.
- 3Drink warm; the beetroot and apple can be eaten too.
Cautions
- Beetroot can turn urine or stools pink or red; this is harmless.
The TCM view
Beetroot is sweet and neutral, strengthening the spleen and nourishing and moving blood. Apple is sweet and cool and generates fluids; red dates are sweet and warm and nourish blood; ginger warms the vessels. Together they nourish and move blood.
