Why it suits you: People with phlegm-damp feel heavy in winter. Steamed fish uses little oil, tangerine peel resolves phlegm and brown rice adds fibre.

Method

Prep 10 min · Cook 15 min
  1. 1Soak and shred the tangerine peel; rinse and lightly chop the black beans.
  2. 2Pat the fish dry, plate it and top with beans, peel and ginger.
  3. 3Steam on high for 8 minutes.
  4. 4Pour off the liquid, add spring onion and a little soy, and serve with brown rice.

Cautions

  • Black beans are salty, so use only a little soy.

Chef's tips

  • Discard the steaming liquid before saucing.

The TCM view

Sole is sweet and neutral, supporting the spleen; tangerine peel moves qi and resolves phlegm; black beans settle the stomach; brown rice dries damp.

Seasonal principle

One of the coldest periods. Focus on warming the Kidneys and strengthening the Spleen to maintain energy. Consume hearty, mixed-grain porridges (like Laba congee) to provide sustained warmth and nutrition. Avoid cold drinks and raw foods entirely during this deep freeze.
