Why it suits you: Yin-deficient people run hot inside, and the fierce heat of Minor Heat brings a dry mouth, constipation, restlessness and poor sleep. Dragon fruit is sweet and cool, clearing heat and moistening the bowels; banana and yoghurt generate fluids; and black sesame nourishes yin and blood. No hob needed, and it's cool, moistening and appetising in the heat.
Method
Prep 5 min · Cook 0 min- 1Halve the dragon fruit, scoop out the flesh with a spoon and dice it; peel and slice the banana.
- 2Divide the yoghurt between two bowls and top with the dragon fruit and banana.
- 3Scatter over the oats and sesame seeds, add a drizzle of honey if you like, and eat straight away.
Cautions
- Red dragon fruit can tint your urine red, which is harmless; eat less if you have a cold, weak stomach or loose stools.
Chef's tips
- Take the yoghurt out of the fridge ten minutes before eating so it's less icy on the stomach.
The TCM view
Dragon fruit is sweet and cool, clearing heat, moistening dryness and generating fluids. Banana is sweet and cold, clearing heat and moistening the bowels. Yoghurt is sweet, sour and neutral, generating fluids; black sesame is sweet and neutral, nourishing the liver and kidneys and enriching essence and blood; and oats strengthen the spleen. Sweet, cool and moistening, it suits yin deficiency when summer heat depletes fluids.
